The Faculty of Science and Engineering goes well beyond the typical boundaries implied by the terms science and engineering. It attaches special importance on acquiring a scientific mentality useful for making wider and deeper inquiry on the basis of the understanding of basic principles. The educational structure involves a broad curriculum composed of a wide range of fields from pure science to applied sciences. A comprehensive education is offered through to the graduate level by faculty who are in the vanguard of a variety of fields. The most advanced facilities and equipment plus a vital information network are provided in order to create an ideal learning environment. It is our mission to cultivate researchers and superior technical engineers who respond to the challenges of our era.

Faculty History
1951 Konan University opens, and the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences is established
1957 The Faculty of Humanities and Sciences is separated into the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of Science
The Department of Physics, the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biology are established
1959 The Department of Management Science is established
1962 The Department of Applied Physics and the Department of Applied Chemistry are established
1964 The Department of Applied Mathematics is established
2001 The name of the Faculty of Science is changed to the Faculty of Science and Engineering
The departments are reorganized as the Department of Physics, the Department of Biology, the Department of Chemistry of Functional Molecules and the Department of Information Science and Systems Engineering
