Life and Functional Material Science

Basic Educational Policies for the Konan University Graduate School of Natural Science’s Life and Functional Material Science Program (Doctoral Program)

Based on the principles set forth at the founding of our university, the Konan University Graduate School of Natural Science’s Life and Functional Material Science Program actively promotes international research and educational activities in chemistry, biology and interdisciplinary studies and provides high ethical values as well as technical knowledge and skills in both basic and advanced topics. Through this, the program has set forth a basic policy that aims to cultivate “independent researchers with exceptionally creative R&D skills who will expand and develop the coordinated interdisciplinary study between the fields of chemistry and biology” as well as “highly-skilled professionals who carry the outstanding abilities required to execute advanced technical operations in chemistry, biology and coordinated interdisciplinary research”.

Konan University Graduate School of Natural Science Life and Functional Material Science Program (Doctoral Program) DP (policies on degree conferment)

The Konan University Graduate School of Natural Science Life and Functional Material Science Program confers doctoral degrees (natural science) to students with high ethical values who possess deep technical knowledge in the fields of chemistry, biology and interdisciplinary research and who work to expand and develop coordinated interdisciplinary study between these fields. Students must also be able to conduct creative research independently and have acquired the skillset necessary to engage in advanced technical operations related to these areas of study.
Candidates are required to have been enrolled in the Graduate School of Natural Science for the designated period and must have acquired the prescribed number of credits (a total of 10 or more credits, including 6 credits from required courses, 2 credits from primary electives and 2 credits from secondary electives) upon completing the courses stipulated in the CP for the Life and Functional Material Science Program and must also have passed the final examinations and doctoral thesis review within the prescribed number of years after finishing their directed study.

Konan University Graduate School of Natural Science Life and Functional Material Science Program (Doctoral Program) CP (policies on the formulation and implementation of education curricula)

In order to cultivate graduates as put forth in our basic educational policies, the Konan University Graduate School of Natural Science’s Life and Functional Material Science Program formulates and implements curricula according to the following policies and confers its doctoral degrees to those who have passed a thesis review within our organizational framework for directed study.
